An independent bookstore in downtown Lebanon, Missouri. Black walls, a warm fireplace, and shelves full of fantasy, dark romance, true crime, and indie authors the chains never carry.
Courtney Gann and Krystal Stewart met in cosmetology school over twenty years ago. They did not get along, until they discovered they both loved Harry Potter. Twelve years of doing hair side by side later, after a 2024 trip to Salem, Massachusetts, Courtney came home and said, "let's just do it."
They opened The Book Burrow in January 2025, in the front of their salon on Commercial Street. Eight hundred books on opening day. Five hundred sold in the first four hours. Today the shelves stay full of fantasy, dark romance, true crime, indie debuts, and all the moody literary fiction that does not get a face-out at the chains.
Read the full storyEvery shelf is hand-curated by two readers who have strong opinions and a podcast to prove it. We carry what we love, and we love what is a little dark, a little indie, and a lot worth your time.
The genre we get asked about most. ACOTAR, Fourth Wing, every spicy indie debut your TikTok has been begging for.
From classic genre staples to the books your favorite podcast keeps quoting. We have read most of them.
Self-published gems, small-press standouts, and the local Missouri writers who deserve a face-out shelf.
Herbal tinctures, custom journals, and handmade pieces from Ozark makers you will not see anywhere else.
Real one-star reviews of beloved books, printed on a shirt. Our most-loved merch by a mile.
If we do not have it, we will get it. Skip the online giant and let us order it for you. Same price, more soul.
That was a real one-star review of our store. We loved it so much we put it on a shirt. Now every tee in the shop quotes a real, brutal one-star review of a book we adore.
Because if we are going to read those reviews for fun anyway, we may as well wear them.
Shop the collectionRight on West Commercial Street, between the coffee shop and the salon. Park out front, pop in, and stay as long as you want. The fireplace is on.
Once a month. New releases we are obsessed with, indie authors we cannot put down, and the occasional brutal one-star quote. No spam, no algorithms.
